Think think think, that's what I have been cracking my brain with in these couple of days. You know, as a homemaker, you tend to want to please your family with the meals you make. Breakfast is an important meal to me, a good breakfast means a good start for that day, especially for my kids. But they being picky eaters and all grouchy in the morning, it's really hard to please them with whatever I make! *sigh* And since my girls are not into bacon and eggs kind of breakfast, I have to fall back to bread.
So I decided to scout around the other fellow blogger's recipes and found one call Polo Buns from Kitchen Corner. Thanks for sharing Grace. I'm sure everyone that frequent those downtown bakeries would have seen or tasted a Polo Bun. It's a sweet and almost crunchy top encasing a soft plain bun. Plain buns? Mmm....I thought why not put some sweeten cream cheese inside?! With that thought in mind, I did not hesitate and got down to baked some delicious Cream Cheese Polo Buns.
I did follow closely to the recipe that KC post on her blog, so if you are interested, go to her blog to check it out. I did double the recipe so that I make more to share with my family. A note about making the buns, the pastry dough is quite sticky, so I did roll it into a log and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes before cutting it into 8 equal parts.
As for the cream cheese filling, I used 100g of soften cream cheese and 40g of confectioner's sugar and mix them together. Roll the paste into a log and chill in the refrigerator for an hour. When it's slightly harden, I cut the log into 6 equal medallions to be inserted into the buns. Why 6 only? Well I divided the rest of the dough and pastry into 4 equal parts and made a variety of fillings. Namely strawberry butter, chocolate chips and also Kraft cheese.
For the strawberry butter, I merely add one teaspoon of strawberry jam to 40g of cold butter and mash it together. Refrigerate the product for at least 30 minutes before scooping it to the bun.
I know, you're going like "Ai ye, why the bun on the left like exploded?" Well somehow the strawberry butter filling just kind of burst open during the baking process! Anyway, I view it as a nice thing, as I can now see the moist sweet filling inside, heehee. The one on the right is of course chocolate chips polo bun. :)
Talking about filling, here's a close look at the yummy cream cheese filling in the other buns. But believe me, the polo buns are still good on it's own. ;)
So this morning, my girls have willing accepted the polo buns I baked for them for breakfast (i.e. strawberry butter and chocolate chips) And both of them finished everything! Yippee, joys of joy! I guess my work is done here......but I'll be back. *heehee, too much movie*
Hi Honey Bee Sweets,
